Abstract

The  topic  of  my  research paper  ‘Teaching English  as  a  Foreign  Language’ is one  of  the  most  modern  and  widely  researched  topic   throughout  the world  in  present  times. This  is  one  of  main  reasons  which  led  me  to  choose  this  topic  of  research.  Some of the  other reasons  for  the  selection  of  this  topic  are  discussed  briefly  below which  include  my  very  own  14  years  experience  of  teaching  English  in  a  non – native  country.  I  strongly  hope   that   my   work   proves  to  be  a  valuable  contribution  towards  the  field  of  entire  research  related  to  this  topic  carried  out  in  different  parts  of  the  world.       (more…)

‘Use of Authentic materials in ELT at the Tertiary level in Engineering colleges: Some approaches and experiments’ by R. Nilavu

Abstract

English language is a vital factor in one’s career. The thirst for improvement and the impact for the language are developing in leaps and bounds particularly among the tertiary level students. English Language Teaching to such tertiary level students who are the speakers of other languages is the need of the hour. Students of Engineering colleges have to be trained for their professional career which includes making them highly communicative imbibing the four skills LSRW. At the same time, it is the prime duty of the teachers to give the students enough exposure on the current relevant events and enhance their language. The writer aims at achieving both at a single throw using authentic materials. Enough approaches have been made using articles, reports and news items from newspapers and magazines. The result is that the students found the class interesting, enlivening and entertaining at the same time paved way for language learning. ‘Hypothesis Testing of Cochran’s Q Test and z- test on 10 most frequently mispronounced words of Mewari ESL Learners in Rajasthan’ by Asif Iqbal

Abstract

Mispronunciation of English words is a common problem among second language learners and this paper highlights the common problems that students face be it in terms of phonemic awareness or the feeling of inferiority. This paper is part of the interdisciplinary research study that was carried out on fifty commonly mispronounced words in region of Mewar i.e. Bhilwara, Rajsamand, Chittaurgarh and Udaipur. It identifies the ten most mispronounced words in the region of Mewar gender-wise, region-wise and further looks into the frequency of mispronunciations of second language learners in Mewar. It also provides insight into problems of language acquisition by Indian second language learners in their day to day lives. (more…)
