He is also the author of &#8216;English Phonetics and Phonology&#8217;, the fourth edition of which was published by Cambridge University Press in March 2009.<\/p>\n<p>In this part of the lecture, Peter Roach discusses the importance of rhythm in comprehending English. He then goes on to discuss the evidence for and against the stress-timing theory.<\/p>\n<p>This lecture was recorded at the 11th Seminar on English Phonetics, hosted by the Phonetics Group Chile at UMCE, Santiago, in 2006.
