Purnell travels regularly between Haiti and other countries where he trains indigenous teachers and set up new internet schools. He is also a member of the board of directors of the Christopher Purnell Foundation, which performs a variety of charitable endeavors in the Himalayan region of Nepal. He is a graduate of Appalachian State University in Boone, and has worked as director of\u00a0student programs at Christ School, a preparatory boys school, in Asheville.
