It is said that quality of a nation is judged by the quality of its citizens. Quality of citizenship depends directly on the system of education of the nation which, in turn, is decided by the quality of teachers it has. In this
regard the Kothari Commission (1964-66) has rightly said, “A sound programme of professional education of teachers is essential for the qualitative improvement of education”.

Quality in higher education is the most urgent need of the hour as our country is progressing towards becoming an educational hub of the world. All the levels of education vertically need to be knit strongly into one coherent unit to ensure quality. Academic institutions are arriving and opting for quality circles, quality efforts at institutional, national as well as international levels. In addition, various academic bodies like UGC, NAAC, NCTE, etc. aim at quality enhancement in education.

The ancient educational system in India is rooted in quality. The Chandyogya Upanishad, for instance, called upon quality in all actions. In the Geeta, Lord Krishna told Arjuna, ‘Yogaha Karmasunkaushalam’, or quality at work itself is Sadhana or the way to unite with God. Ancient Indian Universities such as Takshashila in the Bhrahmanic period and Nalanda during the Buddhist era were known for their insistence on quality and excellence. And yet today India is facing ‘Quality crisis’!

Hence, attention needs to be paid to quality parameters in education.

The focus of the seminar is to review the prevalent systems of higher education across the world in terms of their constitutional policies and provisions vis-à-vis scope of implementing them, to identify and discuss the core aspects and criteria in quality concerns vis-à-vis teaching learning process, students’ progression and support, governance and leadership, faculty up-gradation, infrastructure facilities and utilization thereof.

Objectives of the seminar

1. To review the present system of education and identify the challenges in quality higher education.
2. To suggest measures and procedures to overcome the identified challenges.
3. To share best practices of educational institutions and their contribution to quality enhancement
4.
