However\u00a070 per cent of employers said that university students\u00a0need to do more to prepare themselves to be\u00a0effective in the workplace. Despite realizing the<br \/>\nimportance of employability skills graduates are\u00a0currently falling short of employers\u2019 expectations.<\/p>\n<p>Businesses want graduates who not only to add value\u00a0but also to possess the skills that would transform\u00a0their organizations in the face of continuous and rapid\u00a0economic and technological changes. All graduates\u00a0irrespective of their academic discipline need to be<br \/>\nequipped with employability skills that cover a wide\u00a0range of non-academic or softer skills and abilities\u00a0which are of value at the workplaces. It includes the\u00a0ability to communicate effectively in various\u00a0professional contexts; work in a team; a willingness to<br \/>\ndemonstrate initiative and original thought; self discipline\u00a0in starting and completing tasks in time. In\u00a0short, today\u2019s employers expect the fresh graduates\u00a0to possess the necessary skills to perform well in\u00a0their organizations and here comes the role of\u00a0universities and their teachers. It is crucial that\u00a0universities and employers work with students to\u00a0provide proper signposting to ensure they are in a<br \/>\nposition to make informed decisions and to develop\u00a0and realize their goals.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Keeping these views in mind, the Department of\u00a0Humanities &amp; Management at BITS Pilani, K K Birla\u00a0Goa Campus is organizing a Three-Day Workshop on\u00a0Innovative Pedagogies for Enhancing the\u00a0Employability Skills of Students from 4 September to\u00a06 September 2013. The workshop would serve as a\u00a0forum for the teachers of engineering and polytechnic\u00a0institutions across India to develop a new approach\u00a0towards improved pedagogies related to the theory\u00a0and praxis of employability skills.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Objectives<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>(i) To develop a truly engaging and responsive\u00a0style, leading to positive results among\u00a0participants in understanding and improving<br \/>\nemployability skills.<\/p>\n<p>(ii) To provide a strong theoretical foundation and a\u00a0practical understanding of employability skills\u00a0with a view to enhance participants\u2019 ability for\u00a0improved and effective pedagogies.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Discussion-cum-Practice Sessions<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Personality Development<\/li>\n<li>Verbal and Non-Verbal communication<\/li>\n<li>Job Interviews<\/li>\n<li>Presentation Skills<\/li>\n<li>Group Discussions<\/li>\n<li>Motivation<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Participation<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Faculty members from engineering and polytechnic\u00a0institutions across the country are invited to\u00a0participate.
