In this interview, Stacy Hagen will discuss why listening\u00a0and grammar are a natural fit, why listening instruction needs to focus\u00a0more on helping students decode speech, and how by doing this in the\u00a0grammar classroom, we can provide a much richer linguistic environment\u00a0for our students.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><strong>Why do you teach listening in a grammar course?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Although we don\u2019t usually associate listening with grammar, the two are actually a \u00a0natural fit. In order to better appreciate their connection, however, I think it\u2019s helpful\u00a0to first take a look at listening instruction in general.\u00a0Listening has long been neglected in second language instruction. David Nunan calls\u00a0it the Cinderella skill, which I think is apt.
