The methodical investigation into the \u2018ideology\u2019 of globalization would suggest that the early\u00a0concept of \u2018globalization\u2019 was constituted around the scholarly consensus of English language being\u00a0a global means of communication, representation, reception and comprehension. It has, therefore,\u00a0been referred to and accepted as \u2018world language\u2019 \u2013 or as David Graddol (1997) puts it, \u2018lingua\u00a0franca of the modern era\u2019. However, globalization of English has also raised certain questions of\u00a0\u2018legitimacy\u2019 and \u2018standardization\u2019 of the language. Looking at this fundamental issue from an Indian\u00a0perspective, it might rightly be questioned whether the multiple varieties of English in India,\u00a0geopolitically consisting of 29 states, with 23 official languages and more than 1600 regional\u00a0dialects,hasthe required \u2018legitimacy\u2019 or \u2018standardization\u2019 to identify itself collectively as Indian\u00a0English.<\/p>\n

In the Times of India article, \u201cIndiaspeak : English is Our 2nd Language\u201d (March 14, 2010), it was\u00a0claimed that there are more Indians who speak English than any other language in India, with the\u00a0sole exception of Hindi. English speakers in India outnumber those in all of Western Europe, not\u00a0counting the United Kingdom. And interestingly, Indian English\u2010speakers are more than twice the\u00a0UK’s population, with the users exceeding the number of 255 millions in the region.\u00a0<\/p>\n

However, most of these statistical figures fall short, if one neutrally examines the growth and\u00a0development of India during the last decade. Due to the rapid growth in sectors like socio\u2010cultural\u00a0work, education and research, media and entertainment, fashion, trade and commerce,the use of\u00a0English has reached a new pinnacle.\u00a0The academic fraternity, in India, needs to examine the forms and dynamics of the use of English\u00a0language in all these sectors. Let\u2019s investigate English Language Studies, Literary Studies, Linguistics,\u00a0Stylistics, Contemporary Literary Theories, English Language Teaching, Testing and Evaluation,\u00a0Multimedia and ELT, Translation Studies, etc. The Organizing Committee invites participation in all\u00a0these areas.<\/p>\n

The Organizing Committee of the proposed conference invites scholarly researched papers that\u00a0examine the intersections of Language, Literature and Pedagogy and their sub\u2010disciplines with\u00a0special reference to the Indian context. The primary focus of the proposed conference is to examine\u00a0the new methodologies, theories, and sites of study that are emerging from this intersection.<\/p>\n

The Board of Executive Directors of the Global Association of English Studies in collaboration with\u00a0the H M Patel Institute of English Training and Research are pleased to issue this Call for Papers for a\u00a0National Conference on English in India : Language, Literature and Pedagogy. The proposed\u00a0Conference will be held on July 16 \u2010 17, 2015 at the H M Patel Institute of English Training and\u00a0Research, affiliated to the Sardar Patel University, VallabhVidyanagar, Anand, Gujarat, India.<\/p>\n

We invite proposals for paper presentations, workshops\/interactive sessions, and poster\u00a0exhibitions.Given below are the various types of Abstracts that the Organizing Committee will\u00a0accept.<\/p>\n

TYPES OF PROPOSALS<\/strong><\/p>\n

1. Table Sessions \/ Paper Presentation (15+5 minutes) : Interactive presentation\/themed session focused on sharing, modeling, and discussing your proposed themed topic, while\u00a0allowing for interaction among session participants<\/p>\n

2. Interactive Workshop Sessions (40+10 minutes) : Best suited for\u00a0teaching\/sharing\/demonstrating particular procedures, skills or techniques in the chosen\u00a0field; academic research session focused on original research in higher education teaching\u00a0and learning methods<\/p>\n

3. All\u2010Conference Interactive Poster Sessions (2.5 hours) :Poster Presentation will facilitate\u00a0presenting preliminary results of work in progress or for projects that lend themselves to\u00a0visual displays and representations. Space will be provided by the Host Institution. You will\u00a0use a 42×56 board to display your poster in a large room with others. All materials must be\u00a0organized by the presenter(s).<\/p>\n
