It was great.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>These types of conversations provide a natural context for students to practice the differences between the present perfect (for the indefinite past) and simple past tense. The following activity is scaffolded so that students target the language they want to use and then practice it in an authentic activity.<\/p>\n<p>To use this activity, you\u2019ll need to download <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cambridge.org\/grammarandbeyond\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/Amy-Tates-Tell-Me-More-downloadable_JM.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">this chart<\/a>.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>I start this activity by writing a copy of the chart on the board and filling in my own favorites. As a whole class, we discuss which past participles we could use to form questions for each of these favorites. For some \u201cfavorites\u201d we choose more than one past participle. For example, for\u00a0<em>Unusual Food<\/em>, we might write\u00a0<em>eaten, tried<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0<em>had<\/em>.<\/li>\n<li>I model the activity by asking students my questions (\u2018Have you ever been to Italy?\u2019) and some follow up questions (\u2018When did you go?\u2019 \u2018What did you do?\u2019). These are the details for the final column on the chart.
