It\u2019s such a treat to tune yourself into a new story \u2013 the style, the sense of place and character that the author is creating. That\u2019s why I take it slowly. It\u2019s all about anticipation. You never quite know what\u2019s going to happen.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>In this respect a graded reader is no different, especially when it\u2019s an original story. Encouraging students to read in English can provide massive benefits to their language learning. There are so many academic studies which prove just that \u2026 but how exactly do we do it? What\u2019s the secret?<\/p>\n<p>Secret # 1<\/p>\n<p>First, and most importantly, it\u2019s about the <strong>topic<\/strong>. I don\u2019t know about you, but I\u2019m not interested in <em>everything<\/em> under the sun.
