These skillsets include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Open-minded evaluation of different opinions, perspectives, and points of view<\/li>\n<li>Willingness to risk mistakes<\/li>\n<li>Consideration of multiple ways to solve problems<\/li>\n<li>Engagement in learning, discovery, and problem solving with innovative creativity<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>My previous posts in this series described strategies to build students&#8217; executive functions of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.edutopia.org\/blog\/brain-development-adolescent-growth-spurts-judy-willis\">organization<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.edutopia.org\/blog\/prioritizing-a-critical-executive-function-judy-willis?utm_campaign=node_author_alert&amp;utm_source=edutopia&amp;utm_medium=email\">prioritizing<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.edutopia.org\/blog\/judgment-navigating-choices-and-decisions-judy-willis\">judgment<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.edutopia.org\/blog\/critical-analysis-and-information-literacy-judy-willis\">critical analysis<\/a>. In this post, I\u2019ll suggest ways to activate your students&#8217; developing neural networks of skillsets for <strong>cognitive flexibility<\/strong>. Students with these skillsets will be prepared to achieve their highest potentials for cognitive flexibility and the creative cognition to embrace the as-yet-unknown opportunities awaiting them in the 21st century.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<h3>Building the Skillsets for Cognitive Flexibility<\/h3>\n<p>Students need explicit instruction and opportunities to practice the flexible thinking that will make the most of their brains&#8217; fertile adolescent development stage.
