From their comments \u2013 many of which were generously long and thoughtful \u2013 three main ideas emerged:<\/p>\n<p>1) We need to define the term \u2018authentic\u2019 and also include in the discussion the ideas of \u2018adapted\u2019 and \u2018semi-authentic\u2019 materials.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>2) Authentic materials offer great advantage over materials written for the purpose of language learning.<\/p>\n<p>3) There are also many disadvantages to using them.<\/p>\n<p>In this post, I\u2019ll discuss what we mean by \u2018authentic materials\u2019 and look at some of the advantages they offer in the classroom.
