He was constantly playing pranks on his peers\u2014even his own teachers\u2014and attempts to correct his misbehavior would backfire, leading to defiance and even more misbehavior.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI was pretty bored in school,\u201d&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/books.google.com\/books?id=Ci23BwAAQBAJ&amp;pg=PA53\">says<\/a>&nbsp;Jobs. \u201cAnd I turned into a little terror.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jobs\u2019s response suggests that it\u2019s a mistake to think that bad behavior always comes from\u00a0a desire to break the rules\u2014or that punitive measures will effectively address the underlying reasons that students act out. For some students,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/abs\/pii\/S0145213415000356\">abuse or neglect at home<\/a>\u00a0can lead to higher levels of aggression at school. About\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/books\/NBK332874\/\">1 in 16 children<\/a>\u00a0suffer from oppositional defiant disorder or another conduct disorder.
