{"id":6637,"date":"2020-08-09T14:34:28","date_gmt":"2020-08-09T14:34:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/eltweekly.com\/?p=6637"},"modified":"2020-08-09T14:34:28","modified_gmt":"2020-08-09T14:34:28","slug":"talk-to-google-an-online-pronunciation-activity","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/eltweekly.humbeestudio.xyz\/?p=6637","title":{"rendered":"Talk to Google &#8211; An Online Pronunciation Activity"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>In this expert article, Andrea Giordano<\/em> <em>shares some useful insights to involve your learners in online pronunciation activity. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>There\u2019s one question that still has me thinking\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In a recent&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.eslbasics.com\/blog\/teacher-posts\/how-to-keep-your-students-engaged-online\/\">webinar about improving online student engagement<\/a>, one of the attendees asked a question that I\u2019m still thinking about:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">How to I give feedback to students, when I\u2019m teaching a class of 100 or more?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I gave a few suggestions, including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Have students submit assignments before class begins, and then choose 5 excerpts from student submissions to talk about with the class.<\/li><li>Use an LMS (Learning Management System like Thinkific, Teachable, or Moodle), where you can give direct feedback to students there.<\/li><li>Use polling when asking a question, so you can validate that all students are participating, and so they get instant feedback about whether their answer was correct.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I also want to share with you one of my favorite pronunciation activities. It\u2019s an activity that provides a ton of feedback for your students automatically.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>I CALL THIS ACTIVITY \u201cTALK TO GOOGLE\u201d (OR ALEXA OR SIRI)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>All students need for this activity is:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Access to Google.com (or a smart phone), set to English settings<\/li><li>A microphone.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eslbasics.com\/blog\/teacher-posts\/talk-to-google-an-online-pronunciation-activity\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Talk to Google &#8211; An Online Pronunciation Activity<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eslbasics.com\/blog\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ESL Basics<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In this expert article, Andrea Giordano shares some useful insights to involve your learners in online pronunciation activity.
