What is creativity and how do you incorporate it into daily lesson plans?  How can you also include mobile technology in the creative process so both you and your students are developing together?

Our students and the world around us are a constant source of inspiration for lesson ideas.  However, finding time to reflect and document such creative ideas takes time, especially when teaching back-to-back lessons on a daily basis.  In this session, Joanna will share insight into her process of ideas generation and the role of her sketchbooks, how she aligns creativity with teaching and learning objectives and how mobile technologies are subsequently deployed to ensure students are responsible for both creating and critically evaluating their own content.  (more…)

Shula Ehrlich says, “When visitors first come to Quest to Learn, they’re often not sure what to expect. A lot of them think the first sign of innovation they’ll see will be in the physical space. Will there be touch screens and video game consoles everywhere? Will the furniture look like it belongs in a Google office? These visitors are often surprised. The school sits in a nearly 100-year-old public school building, and classrooms look like, well, classrooms. But the vistors are right about one thing: there is a space in the school that’s fundamental to the innovation that happens there.

That space is Mission Lab, a learning design studio within the school. From the very beginning, Mission Lab was considered a critical design aspect of Quest to Learn — a design lab in the school where game designers and learning designers from Institute of Play (more…)
