FLTAL 2014 intends to remain open to linguistic and cross-cultural education-related topics broadly defined, looking more closely into the current dynamics in the world between old and new trends, local and global tendencies, progressive and conservative views, stabilization and destabilization patterns, national and global identities. In that context, the special focus theme proposed for the conference this time is universal vs. culture specific in the teaching foreign language and applied linguistics.

It is expected that FLTAL will attract a significant number of front-ranking academics, professionals and policy makers working in the broad area of language education, linguistic and intercultural education. The main aim of the conference is to promote the values of multilingualism and intercultural cooperation in a rapidly changing and communication-driven society with cross-border and culture-convergent encounters. Our task is to re-examine and re-define key questions on our existing agenda, as well as to identify new collaborative and networking opportunities, both of which will inform future directions of research and development. This three-day program is unlike most academic conferences. It aims to bring scholars and students together as well as experienced professionals willing to learn, share their ideas and their great achievements, while addressing the importance of education and its strong correlation with development.

The Ninth Annual Education and Development Conference provides a comprehensive and interactive program in which participants cultivate their cross-cultural, and communication skills and learn about different educational systems, the importance of education and many ways to develop and implement it.

This program is specifically designed and targeted for graduate students, scholars, NGO representatives and community members:

About the University: Jain Vishva Bharati University was established with the inspiration of late Gurudev Tulsi, a great, saint and scholar of the modern era. In 1991, Government of India notified JVBU as Deemed to be University under Section 3 of University Grants Commission Act, 1956. Acharya Mahapragya was the master mind behind the conception of this institute. He played a key role in its establishment. Acharya Mahapragya was the supreme head of this university since 1995.

The University aims at to revive truth and values hidden in the ancient Indian tradition in general and in the Jain tradition in particular. One of the most important aims of the university is to spread literacy in subjects like Non-violence and Peace, Jainology, Sanskrit, Prakrit, Yoga, Meditation and Literature. Human life is multidimensional. Life has many aspects like physical, spiritual, economic, social, cultural, political etc. It can’t be captained in terms of any single aspect. Acharaya Mahapragya believed that there are four dimensions of education: Bodily development and the Intellectual development. The other two are neglected and that creates imbalance in education. According to Acharya Mahaprajna “The main aim of education is the integrated development of personality, i.e. physical, mental, intellectual and emotional development.” (more…)
