Research Paper: ‘Task-Based Navigation of a Taxonomy Interface to a Digital Repository’ by Khoo, Wang & Chaudhry

ELTWeekly Vol. 5 Issue#38 | October 28, 2013 | ISSN 0975-3036

This is a study of hierarchical navigation; how users browse a taxonomy-based interface to an organizational repository to locate information resources. The study is part of a project to develop a taxonomy for an library and information science department to organize resources and support user browsing in a digital repository. Method: The data collection was carried out using task-based navigation exercises with twenty-two participants. A cognitive framework of hierarchical navigation is proposed, involving the cognitive process of matching context, topic and/or resource type concepts to taxonomy categories. (more…)

Inclusive Education: Techniques of Teaching English to Differently-abled Students

23 & 24 January, 2014

After the UNESCO Salamanca (1994) deliberations and as a signatory to the Salamanca Statement, India has committed itself to the development of an inclusive education system and has strived to achieve it thereon. The first aim is to provide opportunities for academics from a range of disciplines and countries to share their research both through the conference podium and IJAS’ double-blind refereed publications. All IJAS conferences are inter- and multi-disciplinary.

The second aim of the Conference Series is to provide opportunities for academics to receive informal in-depth feedback through discussions, and to enable them to establish contact with professionals in other countries and institutions. The tours are the main way of “breaking the ice” away from the formalities of the conference hall, providing an informal setting for discussing different points of view. Even in an increasingly networked world of internet and satellite conferences, there is no substitute for personal interaction?what Edward R. Murrow calls “the last three feet of communication.” It is individuals, not data streams, who must ultimately build the connections that in turn create lasting international research partnerships.
